Chris Brown to Perform at 2012 Billboard Music Awards
May 2012 12

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards just got that much more exciting with the announcement that pop/ R&B star, Chris Brown will be hitting the stage. The Grammy winner is nominated for four awards including: Top Male Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album (F.A.M.E) and Top R&B Song (‘She Ain’t You’).

Brown recently released his new pop single, ‘Don’t Wake Me Up,’ and so this would be a great chance for him to introduce the song to the world, and maybe also do a small portion of ‘Sweet Love’ or ‘Till I Die.’ Fortune hits stores on July 3rd.

Usher, Justin Bieber, Nelly Furtado, The Wanted, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, LMFAO and more will also be performing at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas next Sunday.

This is an amazing line up and I’m curious to find out if Usher, Bieber or Brown will have the show-stopping performance. My bet is on Usher.

On thing that I noticed is that there are no hip-hop performers. I’d love for Kanye and Jay-Z to be added, or even Drake, Rick Ross, and Nicki Minaj. There will also be a special tribute to the LEGENDARY and ICONIC, Whitney Houston, who amassed 30 Billboard awards over her career.

Leading all nominees is Adele with 18, followed closely by LMFAO with 17. Rihanna (13), Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga (10), and Katy Perry (9) also scored multiple nominations. For a full list of finalists, visit here.

The Billboard Awards airs May 20th, at 8pm (et) on ABC. We will be live tweeting @popaddicts_

Who do you think will have the best performance?

VIDEO: Coldplay Performs ‘Paradise’ & ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’ on ‘American Idol’
May 2012 04

Coldplay performed for the first time EVER on American Idol tonight two songs from their fifth album — Mylo Xyloto — including ‘Paradise‘ and ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall.’ Lead singer, Chris Martin played the keys on the former, then danced around on stage to the latter.

Back in March, Coldplay shot the video for ‘Princess of China‘ with Rihanna, but it won’t be released until the third week this month. I don’t know what the delay is, but it may have something to do with their current tour, which runs until the end of September. Some of the opening acts are: Rita Ora, Emeli Sandé, Frank Ocean, and Robyn.

Watch both performances below as we patiently await the ‘Princess of China’ video.

The Billboard Music Awards just got four times more exciting! Usher, Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, and Nelly Furtado have joined the list of performers at the upcoming 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Previously announced acts include, Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, The Wanted and CeeLo Green.

I am still hoping that Chris Brown, One Direction and Adele are announced as performers, but this list is strong nonetheless. Beyonce stole the show in 2011, and I’m wondering who will have the show-stopping performance this year?

British Boyband, One Direction Sued By American Band with the Same Name
Apr 2012 11

What’s the saying? More money, money problems? Biggie was a wise one. The latest to suffer for being successful is British boyband, One Direction (referred to as 1D in this post). Originally put together on The X-Factor UK in 2010, the five solo acts teamed up to become one of the hottest boybands to emerge in recent years.

After making history last month, they now are being sued for trademark infringement by a small California pop-rock group of the same name.

Next Week’s ‘American Idol’ Theme/ Mentor Revealed + Eliminated Contestant DeAndre’s Post Idol Interview
Apr 2012 06

This week on American Idol, the 8 contestants sung songs from the 80′s. Many performances stood out, while others fell to the back. Last night, talented contestant DeAndre Brackensick was eliminated, and the judges didn’t use the save. While he left on a high note (singing ‘Master Blaster‘), many felt that he was sabotaged by American Idol producers by putting him first the past weeks. Now, news of next week’s theme has been revealed from executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

Find out next week’s theme, and see Deandre’s post-idol interview after the jump.

Adele Tops Entertainment Weekly’s ’30 Greatest Artist Right Now’ list, Beyonce & Gaga Fail to Make Top 20
Apr 2012 06

Well this is something that will surely have the stans in a state of fury. Entertainment Weekly has unveiled their ‘30 Greatest Artist Right Now‘ list and some of the placement on the chart is sure to be controversial.

Adele tops the list, and rightfully so for her nearing diamond sophomore album, 21, which has managed to sell over 20 million copies worldwide and earned her 6 Grammy’s in one night. Rounding out the top ten are Taylor Swift, Drake, Carrie Underwood, Jack White, The Black Keys, Nicki Minaj, Mumford and Sons and Bajan songstress, Rihanna.

Other notable acts on the list include Bruno Mars (11), Kanye West and Jay-Z, coming in at #13 and #14, respectively and Kelly Clarkson (18). And here’s where the shade begins….

Pop superstar and new mother, Beyonce (26) and Mother Monster, Lady Gaga (24) didn’t even make it in the top 20. Granted, Beyonce doesn’t have a new project out right now, but she is always on everyone’s radar and ‘Love On Top‘ just spent its 6th week at #1 on the R&B charts. As far as Lady Gaga, she’s readying a global tour of over 100 dates and has the most followers on twitter.

There are also a few glaring omissions who didn’t make the list at all. Where is Madonna? A sold out world tour, a #1 album, a performance on the Super Bowl? I guess none of that was enough for her to be coined as “great.”

And what about Justin Bieber? His new single ‘Boyfriend’ sold over 500k the first week out and anticipation for his new project – Believe — is at an all time high.

Congrats to newcomers A$AP Rocky (16) and Azealia Banks (21) for making the list. No Iggy Azalea in sight.

Overall, it’s a decent list aside from the previously mentioned snubs. What are your thoughts? Should Gaga and Beyonce have been higher? Why were Justin Beiber and Madonna overlooked? Who else should’ve been included? Who would be on YOUR list? Talk to us.

Full list after the break.

VIDEO: Kelly Clarkson Performs Acoustic Rendition of Shania Twain’s ‘You’re Still The One’
Mar 2012 24

OMG!! Let me calm down, so that I can type. American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson covered my favorite Shania Twain song EVER in concert last night — ‘You’re Still The One.’ The track was released on Twain’s 2 times diamond, record shattering third studio album, Come On Over. Seriously. Two times diamond?

Each night on tour, Clarkson takes fan suggestions and covers different artists. Songs previously performed include “Exhale” by Whitney Houston, Paramore’s “The Only Exception,” among others.

Clarkson performed an acoustic rendition of the country classic and once finished gushed, “I love that song. It’s just the sweetest song.”
